Streamlining Credentialing: FCVS Enhances Accessibility and Efficiency

The Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) continues to play a vital role in streamlining the credentialing process for state medical boards, physicians, and healthcare organizations. In fiscal year 2024, our focus centered on improving accessibility and efficiency across our platforms.

As part of this ongoing commitment, FCVS is nearing completion of the first phase of a comprehensive user experience (UX) project. This initiative aims to enhance navigation within FCVS and the Uniform Application for Medical Licensure (UA), integrate a unified ordering system for multiple products, and provide physicians with real-time visibility into their profile status and required actions.

Delivering Efficient Credentials Verification

Preserving Records from Closed Residency Programs

FCVS's Closed Residency Programs service maintains critical training records for physicians from defunct training programs. Currently managing records from 60 institutions and more than 300 specialties, FCVS has transitioned to digital formats, enhancing portability and accessibility for physicians. In 2023, FCVS processed 801 secure digital closed program verifications, representing a 110% increase compared to 2020.

Ensuring Comprehensive Verification with NPDB Integration

Through FCVS, FSMB provides state medical boards with access to National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) reports. Currently, 24 boards participate in our NPDB service, with 18 utilizing the one-time query service and six leveraging the NPDB Continuous Query report. This integration ensures comprehensive and timely credentials verification, supporting the critical work of state medical boards.

Looking Ahead: Continued Innovation and Collaboration

As we look to the future, FCVS remains dedicated to enhancing the credentialing process through innovative solutions and collaborative partnerships. By continuously improving our platforms, expanding our services, and maintaining the highest standards of data integrity, we aim to support state medical boards in their critical mission of protecting public health and safety.
