Lifetime Achievement Award

This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary and sustained service and commitment to the field of medical licensure and discipline.

Arthur Hengerer, MD

Arther Hengerer, MD, is a Fellow of the NY State Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC). Dr. Hengerer's career in medical regulation began in 2002 with the OPMC, which he chaired from 2012 to 2019. He joined FSMB's board in 2011 and became chair in 2016. During his tenure, Dr. Hengerer established several workgroups, notably on Physician Wellness and Burnout. He became a leading advocate for physician wellness, emphasizing its importance in patient care. The workgroup produced a comprehensive policy document with recommendations for state medical boards and partner organizations. Dr. Hengerer's contributions have significantly impacted patient care, public protection, and clinician well-being for numerous health care professionals.
